Myths and Questions About Hypnosis

Can I be Hypnotized?

Anyone who is willing to be hypnotized can be.  Remember, hypnosis is a naturally occurring brain wave state  that each of us goes into and out of throughout the day.  Each individual is unique and everyone goes into hypnosis at the speed and to the depth that is just right for them.  A light stage of hypnosis is usually all that is needed for success, but many choose to go much deeper, simply because it feels so good.

Can the hypnotist make me do something I don't want to do?  Will I reveal secrets during hypnosis?

No.  In hypnosis you are always aware and in complete control.  Your hypnotist is merely a guide or facilitator.  No one can make you do anything you don't feel comfortable with or anything against your will.  You will not anwer any questions or reveal any information that you do not wish to.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No.  Again, hypnosis is a naturally occurring state.  If the hypnotist were to leave the room while your were in hypnosis, you would naturally emerge from hypnosis or briefly drift off to sleep, awakening alert and refreshed.

Will I be in hypnosis during the first session?

Yes.  You will be hypnotized during the first session and any subsequent sessions you wish to schedule.

How long does a session take?

An initial session will take approximately an hour and a half.  This includes time to fill out paperwork and get to know each other.  Subsequent sessions will take approximately an hour.

How many sessions will it take?

It depends on the individual and his or her goals.  Many issues, such as smoking, can be addressed in one session.  For weight reduction I usually suggest two to three sessions.
